Household or side hustle
Clementine shows the sections that fit how you earn. How it decides, what the Work section adds, and how to switch it on or off.
In the app: Account, Profile
Clementine is one app for two kinds of money: the household’s, and what you earn from your own work. Not everyone has the second kind, so the app is arranged one of two ways, and you can change your mind whenever life does.
| Section | What it is for | Household | Side hustle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home | Where you stand, and what needs you next | Yes | Yes |
| Spending | What went out, against your limits | Yes | Yes |
| Plan | Bills, renewals and what is on the way | Yes | Yes |
| Save | Goals and the accounts they live in | Yes | Yes |
| Work | Invoices, clients and getting paid | Hidden | Yes |
| Tax | Income, deductions and money set aside | Yes | Yes |
| Account | Your details, connections and plan | Yes | Yes |
The only difference is Work. Tax is there either way, because a salary earner has a tax return too: payslips, deductions and an estimate for the year.
How Clementine decides
Until you choose, it works it out from what it already knows:
- If you told setup that you work for yourself, or both earn a salary and work for yourself, you get Work.
- If you said salary only, you get the household arrangement, unless you already have invoices or clients in Clementine. Then Work stays until you turn it off yourself.
- If you have not said, it looks for invoices, clients or a business on your account.
Switching it yourself
Open Account, then Profile, and use the switch called I also earn from my own work.
How you earn
- I also earn from my own work Adds Work: invoices, clients and getting paid.On
- On adds Work to your navigation.
- Off takes Work out of your navigation. Nothing is deleted: your invoices and clients are still there, and a link to one of them still opens.
The choice is saved on your account, so it follows you to your phone and your computer.
Which plan goes with which
The arrangement and the plan are separate. Free includes invoicing, so you can have Work on Free. Sole Trader adds the parts a business needs beyond invoices, such as GST and the BAS worksheet. What is in each plan
If you start a side hustle later
Turn the switch on, then add your business details under Work, Settings: your business name, email and payment details go on every invoice. If you are registered for GST, turn it on under Tax, Settings. Invoices, GST and the BAS worksheet
