Exporting your data

Download everything Clementine keeps for you as one zip: a spreadsheet for each kind of record, one JSON file and your receipt photos. Free on every plan.

In the app: Account, Your data

Everything Clementine keeps for you can be downloaded as one zip file, whenever you like. It is free on every plan and it still works after a trial or a paid plan has ended. Your data is yours, and this is how you hold your own copy of it.

Downloading it

  1. Open Account, then Your data.
  2. Leave Include receipt images ticked, or untick it for a smaller, faster download.
  3. Choose Download everything.

A progress bar shows what is being read. A large account takes a little while: tens of thousands of transactions take seconds, not minutes. The zip is put together on your own phone or computer. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

clementine-export-2026-10-03.zip

  • transactions.csv Every bank, card and hand-entered transaction, one row each
  • transaction_lines.csv The same by category, one row per split line
  • More spreadsheets Categories, accounts, bills, subscriptions, goals, invoices, clients, tax income, deductions, settings
  • clementine.json Everything in one file, exactly as stored
  • README.txt What each file and column means
  • receipts/ The photos attached to your deductions
An example with made-up figures. What is in the zip.

What is in it

  • A spreadsheet for each kind of record. CSV files that open in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets: transactions and their split lines, categories, accounts and balances, bills, subscriptions, goals and buckets, the savings ledger, invoices, clients, tax income, deductions, businesses and settings.
  • One JSON file with everything exactly as it is stored, for moving to other software.
  • A guide to what each file and column means, and how to check the totals against the app.
  • Your receipt photos, in a folder for each deduction. Any that are left out are listed with the reason.

Checking it adds up

The spreadsheets are built so you can check them against the app. In the transactions file, one column is the amount Clementine counts in spending totals. Add it up for a month and you get the Spent figure for that month in Spending and Reports. A transaction split across categories is one row in the transactions file and one row per line in the lines file, so totals by category match too.

What is not in it

  • Your password.
  • The keys that connect your bank feed, Gmail and AI. The export says which connections exist, not how to use them.

If you hide amounts on a device, the export is not affected: hiding is for when someone can see your screen, and a download always has the real figures. Keep the file somewhere private.

If it does not finish

  • You are offline. The export reads your records fresh from your account, so it needs a connection. Nothing is downloaded until all of it has been read.
  • You cancelled. Nothing was downloaded. Start again whenever you like.

Leaving, or just keeping a copy

Exporting does not close anything or change your plan. Taking a copy at the end of each financial year is a good habit. If you do want your account deleted afterwards, that is a separate step: how to delete your account.

  • Getting set up

Guided setup takes you through fourteen short steps, and every one of them can be skipped and picked up later. What each step is for, and what to do first.

  • Household or side hustle

Clementine shows the sections that fit how you earn. How it decides, what the Work section adds, and how to switch it on or off.
